Announcing the formation of a new organization for sighthounds!

There is an ever increasing population of rare breed sighthounds and new breed sighthounds in the USA.  Their owners benefit from having organizations that promote and support their special dogs.

With that goal in mind, the:

 Appalachian Sighthound Association (ASHA)

officially has been established.  As a further attempt to serve those with various types of sighthounds, a breed specialty club to specifically promote the Appalachian Greyhound, under the auspices of the Appalachian Sighthound Association, has also been formed.  It is:

·       Appalachian Greyhound Association     ( AGA )

The Appalachian Greyhound Association (AGA) is the official National Breed Club for the Appalachian Greyhound.  As such, the Official Breed Standard for the Appalachian Greyhound has been formulated and approved under its auspices.

One of the ways in which ASHA will be supporting the Appalachian Greyhound is by having Specialty Shows and also supporting entries at other rare breed shows, plus providing agility, obedience and lure coursing competitions and titles, as well, at some of these shows.

Another venue of support for these dogs is the creation of an Appalachian Greyhound Registry as part of the Appalachian Greyhound Association, which allows registration for all four varieties – smooth, longhaired, rough coated, and wirehaired – of Appalachian Greyhound.

There is a 2 stage registration for the developing breed, the Appalachian Greyhound.

Provisional Registration is for dogs under one year of age.

Permanent Registration is not granted until the dog is over one year of age, at which time it is determined, based on a appropriate evaluation, whether or not the dog comes into conformance with the Appalachian Greyhound Standard.

If you would like registration information and an application form for the Appalachian Greyhound Registry, please contact us at the address or email address below.

Thank you for your continued interest in the many types of wonderful sighthounds we enjoy.  We hope that you will join with us in this endeavor to promote this special type of dog.
